Everyone knows they should incorporate more fruits and veggies into their diet, but let’s be honest… who actually likes eating vegetables? Since many of us avoid eating healthy food throughout the day, we’re missing out on vitamins and nutrients needed to promote a healthy lifestyle. If only there was an easier way to consume our greens daily… but hey! There is! That’s where a proper juicer machine really comes in handy!

Hi, I’m Michael and I’ve been juicing fruits and vegetables for over 14 years. I know a lot about which juicers are best for different types of juicing:

  • oranges
  • leafy greens
  • lemons
  • kale
  • limes
  • wheatgrass
  • pineapple
  • pomegranate
  • celery
  • beets

and every other type of fruit and vegetable!

I also know the best high-speed (and slow press) juicers with an extra wide feed chute, juicers that can make nut butters and smoothies, citrus juicer, juicers for juicing whole fruits, how all the juicer accessories work, and in this list I’ll even give you my top picks and recommendations!

In searching for the best juicer, you probably have a ton of questions:

– Does the quality of a juicer matter?
– What’s the difference between slow masticating and centrifugal?
– How much juice will I get?
– Why are there so many juicer options?
– Is the juicer loud or quiet?
– Can my kids help with juicing?
– How long does juicing take?
– Will I even like drinking juice?
– How long will the juice last after juicing?
– Are certain juicers better than others?
– Is the juicer easy to clean?

By the end of this article, you’ll know the difference between high and low speed juices and will be able to determine which juicer is right for you!

Who Should Drink More Juice?

Whether you’re trying to lose weight, get healthy, enjoy an activity with your kids, or simply want to eat more goodness, juicing can help with it all!

– Trying to get healthy?
– Wanting to only lose weight?
– Wanting a fun activity to do with your kids?
– Looking to save money on juice?

When it comes to drinking cold juice from the glass, there is an absolute difference between juices you make at home vs those you shop for at the store. Grocery stores may keep items in stock longer than they should or even make juice using machines that are designed for outputting a lot of liquid in a short amount of time. This lowers the amount of quality nutrients found in these types of beverages. Next time you drink “fresh squeezed” orange juice (or squeeze by hand), take note of the flavor. Fresh is ALWAYS better.

Centrifugal Juicer vs Slow Juicer

Uh oh, it’s learning time! Don’t worry, I’ll keep this part brief but I think it’s important to understand the difference between the two main types of juicers: centrifugal and masticating.

Centrifugal Juicers

Centrifugal juicers (aka fast speed juicers) have a fast spinning blade. The blade is very sharp and cuts through veggies like kale or fruits like apples with ease. People generally assume that because a juicer has a high-speed, rotating blade that making juice will be faster. That’s not always the case. I’ll explain more in a minute.

With centrifugal juicer prices, they are generally cheaper than masticating juicers (below) but with the lower price, there’s a downside: they don’t produce as much juice from greens and leafy vegetables.

When using a centrifugal juicer, you’re losing around 60% juice in the extracted pulp… you know, that weird fibrous stuff that’s removed from the fruit/vegetable? You’re also losing more nutrients because while the blade spins fast, it’s oxidizing that produce… making them go bad faster.

Fast Juicers: What They Juice Well

Most high-water content fruits/veggies like oranges, lemons, limes, apples, and pineapple. However, when you juice at a fast speed, the heat goes up and what you extract goes down.

Fast Juicers: What They Don’t

Greens and leafy vegetables like kale and spinach, wheatgrass, beets, herbs and spices like cilantro and parsley.

A typical juice made from a high-speed juicer will last about 2 hours before going bad. If you want a juice to stay good for many days, a masticating juicer would be the better choice.

Masticating Juicers

The word masticate essentially comes from latin, meaning “to chew” or “grind with teeth.” Masticating types (also known as cold or slow press) don’t have a traditional blade, but rather have a slow turning grinder that crunches up produce similar to how we chew. There are more filters that happen when extracting the liquid from the solid.

Slow juicers are best for people who enjoy maximizing the juice yield while saving money at the grocery store. These juice machines can get back those lost 60% of juice because they don’t waste as much in the pulp.

Since these slow juicers are doing more work, and giving you more juice with each use, they are slightly more expensive than high-speed, centrifugal juicers.

Slow Juicers: What They Juice Well

Greens including kale, spinach, oranges, watermelon, pineapple, apples, carrots, beets, limes, lemons, pomegranates, ginger, celery, and more!

Slow Juicers: What They Don’t

It depends on which slow juicer you purchase. I’ll give you a great slow juicer recommendation later on!

Centrifugal Juicers Brands

Since there are numerous brands selling juicers with stainless steel blades, claiming to be the best value juicer, I thought I’d share my recommendations for these types of juicers (since there are a lot of low quality juicers and brands on the market) even though their prices are somewhat-high.

These include citrus juicers that really do a decent job at breaking down citrus fruits, whole fruits, making fresh juice, even when alternating between fruits and vegetables.

Juicer brands to consider if you don’t care about losing nutrients:

Masticating Juicers Brands

There are tons of great masticating juicer brands but there is ONE that stands out among the rest, both for price and quality. That’s the Nama J2 juicer and it is hands-down, the greatest juicer machine on the market!

Slow juicers brands to consider:

Overall: #1 Best Centrifugal Juicer (two speeds)

My top pick for Best Fast Speed juicer is the Breville Juice Fountain Plus. Its average price is between $125 – $175 and is really great for beginners looking to increase fruit and vegetables intake, see if making juice is really for them, and get an overall feel on how everything works.

If you prefer a stainless steel auger (or blade), the Breville Juice Fountain Elite offers that. It’s slightly more expensive than the Fountain Plus.
